This community crocheted coral reef was exhibited at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) through April 2009. Over 50 people contributed to this project, raising awareness about the threats to our ocean and coral health while crafting a work of art. Rose Sabel-Dodge, owner of Gossamer Fiber Arts in Portland, OR, was inspired by the Institute For Figuring's large traveling crocheted reef, and organized this collaborative creation with artist, Susan Lake (Octopus maker). Colleen, as her alter ego, Amphitrite (Goddess of the Sea), joined the project by showing the documentary, "Reef Reborn," about the Global Coral Reef Alliance's restoration and conservation work in Pemuteran, Bali. As Amphitrite, Colleen wants to inspire people to help protect the oceans any way they can. |
